Laurent Giles "S/Y Baccante"

LOA   50'.6"                LWL 35'
Beam 10'9"         Draught 7'8"

S/Y Bacchante was commissioned as a private yacht and built in 1950 by Port Hamble Ltd.
Designed by Laurent Giles in the prime of his career.

She was built in teak and mahogany with a lead keel
and rigged as a Bermudan Cutter.
Below decks, the accommodation offered is in 2 cabins and the saloon.

The rig is Oregon pine and stainless steel, and has been removed and stowed away, as has the mahogany furniture from the interior.

Planks have been replaced where necessary and the inner metal structure has been completely refastened to the hull with some 600 stainless steel bolts, connecting planks to the wooden and metal frames. Keel bolts are in stainless steel.

The motor and gearbox have been overhauled, the deck equipment is complete with the exception of some winches and the steering wheel. There are no sails or instruments.

She is Dry docked in Athens

The owners stated requirements called for a fast, handsome cruiser with comfortable accommodation for six, plus one paid deck hand, ample food stowage space and tankage and also a refrigerator. In comparison with many modern ocean racers, Bacchante is very spacious below decks. Both cooking and navigation duties are carried out in the light and airy doghouse. Ventilation was particularly studied, with 4 electric exhaust fans in the heads, galley, engine compartment and drawing air from the bilges past the refrigerator cooling fins.

The boat has proved herself to be very easily handled, thanks in no small measure to the two large and comfortable cockpits. In hard weather season she has been found notably dry in a seaway and easily controlled at all times.

Actually she is a dreamboat. Lying in Greece awaiting her new owners to make the dream come true.

This is her current condition, much of the work has been done, but not all by any means.

This boat was sold through www.yacht-sale.com

It was owned by Martin Schuler and Roxanne (I believe she has become the green parliamentary candidate! - save me from do gooders & cheats ) from Limassol who ran a charter operation called sail fascination. I personally answered 111 e mails about this boat, made 2 web pages, made many overseas phone calls and generally worked hard on their behalf. She was sold to Simon Crick in 2000 ..... I still have not been paid a penny commission.
